Findings:
- The authors discuss a new model, an integrative approach to diversity—intergroup dialogue.
- Intergroup dialogue brings diverse students together to explore their own and other group’s identities, analyze how power and inequality affect their groups, and examine ways to bridge intergroup differences.
- Future research needs to address substantive and methodological issues to understand intergroup relations and diversity education.
- Researchers need to consider how these issues relate to diversity programs: pre-college diversity experience, classroom dynamics, race/ethnicity, stages of cognitive and emotional development.
- Methodology issues to consider are: selectivity, generalization, establishing impact and effect, latency of impact, and use of mixed methods.
